Police tried to ignore case of 65-year old man being punched and threatened

At about 8pm last Thursday I was on the way to Puchong for meeting when I received a call from Mr Lim Tai San, my “old” friend and supporter of Overseas Union Garden (OUG) in my constituency. He told me he was beaten up by his neighbour, boss of Steven”s Corner (mamak shop).

I then rushed to OUG with my assistant Gary Chong. Our car was stucked at OUG due to the night market there. I also called the police when I was on the way to OUG.

When we arrived, Lim has been sent to hospital by police car. Lim’s sons were very emotional in front of Steven’s Corner. They showed me the photograph of their father who suffered from swollen blue black eye and bleeding nose. They described to me the whole incident and the pain their father suffered. They also told me that the threat by Steven’s Corner people who said they will burn down their shop and they have connection with all agencies including police. I then tried to cool them down.

The following day I called press conference together with Lim Tai San. I was quite shocked to hear from him that he has to wait for few hours for medical check up at Universiti Hospital. When the check up was done, he was sent back to Balai Petaling, and the police officer asked him to kautim with the person who assaulted him. Lim refused to do so and he walked away from the police station.

Wah??!! Is this the way police handle criminal cases?

I shouldn’t comment too much on this matter, but I would like to share with you the blogs and Facebook page on this case which you might find interesting.

Owner of popular Indian restaurant chain Steven’s Corner, Sathisilan, better known as Steven,  was arrested last night over allegations of assaulting a 65-year-old next door shop owner.

Brickfields district police chief ACP Wan Bari Abdul Khalid confirmed Sathisilan’s arrest and said he is being investigated for criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.

The victim, Lim Tai Sun, was left bleeding after Sathisilan confronted him for moving the restaurant’s tables placed in front of his glassware shop in Overseas Union Garden.

According to Lim, the incident happened at approximately 8.30pm last night while he was trying  enter his shop.

At a press conference today organised by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Lim claimed that he was assaulted by Sathisilan while he was exiting his shop.

“He dashed at me and punched me four times on my eyes, nose and chest,” said Lim, adding that he lodged a police report after the incident while sporting a bloodied nose.

Cops advice: Settle the matter

He adds that his two sons confronted Sathisilan after the incident and the latter responded by brandishing a knife at them. In addition, he said a man known only as “Ah Wai” arrived at the scene and threatened to burn down his shop if he went public over the assault.

He said that his and the assault were captured by the restaurant’s closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV).

Lim also alleged that the police were initially hesitant to retrieve the CCTV footage, instead advising him to “settle” the dispute with the restaurant owner.

However, the police swung into action after Lim alerted Kok and OCPD about the initial reluctance shown by the police.

Bad blood over Lim’s shop

Lim was initially a business partner of Sathisilan, but their relationship went sour after Steven’s Corner moved next to his shop.

“They wanted to expand so they offered to rent my shop. But I have been leasing the upper floor to a family with elderly mother so I turned them down. Since then, they keep playing dirty tricks,” said Lim

Lim is now fearing for his life and hopes that the authorities can provide him protection.

Meanwhile, Kok said the assault on Lim was a clear criminal offence and urged the police to prosecute the culprit.

What is the progress?
From what I read from the Star, the police could not get a remand order on Friday.

For years, the BDKL and MPAJ never taken any action against Steven’s Corner in OUG and Pandan Jaya although Steven’s Corner placing tables on the roadside (which was banned a few years ago). In OUG, Steven’s Corner tables and chairs are place along the road sides, parking lots, in front of bank and other shops. This cause inconvenience to others and the area filthy. Last year, Sathisilan was rob right in front of his home in OUG. Incredibly, less than a week, the police place those kind of “Polis”-blue-letter-box in front of that house (police is very effective when their “tong beras” have rat?). And remember the corruption case between Steven’s Corner with an ex-MPAJ councilor? This already prove their connections with the authority (namely local council, police and maybe an infamous indian political party). Almost everybody knows what is Sathisilan’s illegal side businesses.

and I call upon everybody to boycott Steven’s Corner. There are many alternative mamak stalls in Citrus Garden, Taman Desa, Kuchai Lama, Sri Petaling and nearby neighborhood. Steven’s Corner food isn’t cheap compare with those.

Agreed on all above.
The rumors have it said that their main business is on the darkside involving investment scams, loanshark, debt collection and etc.
The restaurants are a front. Witnessed with my own eyes that the father n son go around collecting monthly payment from hawkers + shop owners in oug, old klang road, taman yarl, tan yew lai and puchong. Holds a clutch/document bag with little notebooks.
Worst part is they can do anything they want with the money and connections they have with police and other authorities. Their relative or brother in law is in the force.

Connections, money, bribery + honorary titles = ABOVE THE LAW ???

I can only say that each get away becomes precedence. This is what happens when the law is not even handed. I see our Bandaraya very active in the morning on market stall vendors, parking tickets quite actively issued and the Thursday markets watched.
For years Steven Corner grew from what was suppose to be the bus station to what is now just about the length of that acess in the front of the shops. for years I have been wondering how come Steven Corner can spread out way beyond their shop front.

Does Steven Corner have a special license to operate like this ?
Does this mean that the Bandaraya approves of this ?
Does it mean our bylaws allow obstruction in front of people’s doorway ?
has any one tried parking in front of Steven’s House ?
It all does not sound right and there must be something more to the way to it all?

Violence, well this is now over the top.

Just don’t go to all these places. I never want to myself. Why waste your money to enrich them. They are ungrateful and become arrogant instead and think they are above the lae. It is not necessary that you must go to Steven Corner or any of these places where you actually help these arrogant people to become rich and bully othes in return. There are lots of other smaller and much more friendly food stalls elsewhere where the owners are poorer but far more human and far more decent. These are the people we need to help them erk out a living

  1. on 10 Aug 2010 (1 week ago) at 17: 05.41   DontPlayGod

The solution is quite simple actually. Firstly, sue for assault, secondly, we should all boycott Steven’s Corner. We must show such people that gansters like him cannot be tolerated and cannot be accepted by anyone in a cultured and civilized society.

First and foremost, there are no ‘real’ Indian gangsters in M’sia, all just wannabes. Secondly, if your principles dictate that you shall not bow down to any harrassment/arrogance of this sort, then by all means boycott. Finally and most importantly, we have to be united and consistent with the decision – only then will the message be delivered

It looks as if the rule of law in our country is warped- how can there be proper justice and fairplay when such thuggish behaviour is allowed and condoned by the Authorities who are supposed to administer the laws of our land? Rampant bribery and corruption always precede the downfall of corporations and entire countries.Do our leaders have the will to stamp out corruption? Do what China does- execute the corrupt!

Boycott all these wannabe gangaster places. How can the police say to the victim to settle this themself.

What is the clear statistic that crime rate is actually going down, when the police do not what to entertain this report.

I was a victim of snatch thief, and when I went to the polish station to meke a report, the Polis Officer ask me how much have I lost and what is in my sling bag.

When I told him there no money lost, and I have my lunch tupperware, bottle of drink, magazine, umbrella, I was told no need to make a report, since there is no monetary value lost.

only when I insisted, and the Polis officer call up his superior, then only he aggreed to take down my report.

So how does the polish say crime rate is down, when they keep turnning away people from making a report of theft, assault, etc.

Bullshit – when papers still writting reports of crime rate is down, whenever the Home Ministry , keep announcing of achiveing their KPI.

I never patronize any mamak eatery and I consider SC on the same playing field; reason being the guys that serve in these eateries seem to give out a certain smell from their bodies and they look sweaty and most of all I have a pet-pevied for finger-nails. So there’s no issue for me not patronizing these places.

But contrary to what was said above; it is totally wrong to advocate gangterism especially to what is called a service industry. So only we as concern citizens can make the difference and if they (SC) do not compensate or apologize to the victim (an elderly man, and it’s not our “Malaysian” custom to raise your hands to the elderly) we can bankrupt SC. Pass the word don’t eat in SC as they don’t respect the elderly. Btw, I am Indian Malaysian and I don’t condorn to violence nor racialism.

A friend of mine was robbed while he stops at the highway to listen to a phone. 2 of the robbers just rush into the car and start hitting his head with a rod n a saw . He was very cool headed and manage to get off by giving everything to him except his car and car key.
As his blood was bleeding down his face, he went to the police station to make a report. As he was entering the police at the gate stops him and do not allow him to park inside the police station. The police insisted that he parks opposite the road and walk into the police station to make a report.
He was let in to park after he gave him some ‘ yam cha ‘ money.
Thats how our police force operates. Greedy & Inhumane.

DBKL should do something about the walkway (pavement)by the side of steven’s house in Jalan Hujan Emas 3.OUG He built and used it as his private car park for 3 cars. Planted many small plants on the pavement. Residents have to walk on the road that is parked with cars.
Drivers who park their cars near there will be told to move away. He is occupying the state land for personal gains.
The place should be clear for public use as walkway to avoid moving cars always. DBKL wake up!

Teresa, I’ll tell you straight forward that this particular blog is a disgrace. A picture of a bloodied old man is an emotional issue but you are making use of this just to gain political millage.

Make no mistake. There is no excuse in this world to beat up an old man. And I like most people here would immediately jump to conclusion that there is a very bad man out there and it is not the old man. But is our conclusion the right one? Does our conclusion equates to justice? You seem to think so.

The way your blog is written, you are the judge, jury and executioner.

When you post a link to FB to boycott Steven’s Corner, you have already judged them guilty and sentenced them. What gave you that right? Just because you feel emotional? You did not witness the incident, but have you talked to all witnesses including the owner of Steven’s Corner to understand the situation? Did you know what exactly transpired? If you don’t, so you should not be making any judgment.

I know our police and justice system aren’t up to mark, but your perception of justice as reflected by this blog shows that you have absolutely no idea what justice is.

Write in a responsible manner befitting of a level-headed leader. Then you will be a great wakil rakyat.

PKR has done a good job. We have one time or another face these problems. i was making a report at this Police Station in Seri Kembangan one day. This Police Constable was writing 4 ekor and not even bothered about my existence. I told him saya nak buat satu lapuran. He said… tak boleh tunggu ke ? I end up walking away from the Police Station. If they can write 4 ekor inside the Police Station what else on earth can they not do. You dare to take photograph ? Les you want to end up with a suicide note like Teoh Beng Hock. Maybe Teoh saw a stack of money near the window and fell while trying to retrieve it. The BN have done a good job where lies after repeating becomes a truth. Where fabrication is necessary if there is no evidence. I can not remember that 2 police that murdered Altantuya. Who can ? My personal opinion and has nothing to do with BN or PKR. 1 Malaysia. Sure or not ?

Whether you are caught sleeping with a 15-year old girl, drunk-driving, hiding 5,000 pcs of ectasy pills in your car, building a 24-million ringgit home in Shah Alam while making less than RM20K per month, vehicular- manslaughtering, pushing someone off MACC building, marrying a second wife; you can be set FREE by paying off the police and of course, the judges. Oh this is for u again Eugene, dont comment people bring disgrace to their blog, your comment is utterly a DISGRACE !!! U said Teresa Kok should find/speak to witness of what actually transpired at SC before passing judgement……what I have to say is as long as a person HITS the other party, he/she is already JUDGE to have done a wrongful act. If the guy who was hit that bad and he might have angered the owner of SC, that does not mean the owner of SC CAN bash him up. THINK BEFORE YOU WRITE SUCH STUPID COMMENT!! Refer to lyfook

DBKL should do something about the pavement and divider outside SC restaurant. Why must there be a special opening @ pavement made for convenience of loading and unloading. Besides all public carparks are occupied from 5pm till dawn for placement of tables and chair by SC. Those who want to park their cars are being chased away by the workers of SC.

The next point is that their food preparation table tops, stalls, coconut storage racks, fridges and ovens are ALL OVER the public road and pavement areas. Once again they are occupying the state land for personal gains.
The place should be clear for public use as walkway to avoid moving cars always. DBKL pls wake up !!!

Let’s stand united and boycott SC once and for all. Let him taste the bitter fruit. Teach him not to be arrogant, high-handed. Teach him to be humble, polite. Teach him that the LAW is not in his hands. Teach him to be lebih ajar, not kurang ajar pariah of the society.

What a shame Mr Lim is my respected friend who had helped my daughter ‘s enrollment into Yoke Nam!
NOT ONLY WE SHALL BOYCOTT S/CORNER everywhere but also any new outlets set up with a new name by Sathisilan and his family! Unless he made a public apology to Lim, pay all his medical bills and guarantees his safety, the boycott will be a lifelong issue.

I as one of the DAP branch chairman will always stand for the publics regardless any races. This type of cases is very obvious there is no more law in malaysia. i always told ppl money n strength is law in malaysia if the BN still uling the country. i strongly urged the publics to wake up and stop voting BN as they control the military and the police. the police nowdays r like big taiko’s. i myself have been in tis situation a few times and we cant do anything to the police till i get fed up i fight with the police. the most we eat nasi lemak only. i am always ready to fight the police anytime. they doesnt do their job at all and the only job they did very well is eat money. what else can they do. Y.b u did appear at the scene the police dun even bother so what status we r here. police doesnt even scared a y.b lodge a report. so who r we. i am just a branch chairman n other publics are just an ordinary person. i strongly urged steven corner boss to pay the necessary to the oldman and apologize on publics within 7 days. i also strongly urged all the doctors of private n government sectors pls do ur parts as doctors! your job is to save ppl not talking about money. i have gone thru tis cases personally and most recent cases was last 2 weeks…i dont know what da purpose we have doctors and insurance…i nearly lost 3 of my finger and the fucking doctor is rushing her time back and ask me to wash my hand full of blood myself and she dare to told me her time is up till 7pm and she really left the clinic…i really dun understand what country is this…the private sectors are talking about money 1st not saving a person life 1st and what da purpose we have insurance…no point we buy insurance…before we signed anything on it they promise us the moon n da stars but once we signed we c nothing and before we signed they chase us non stop and after signed we have 2 chase at the insurance agent…insurance company is only making money since BN…i urged the public not to vote BN anymore and let us have a chance to lead the country and i can assure there wont b such things police or doctors wont attend to you…if the doctors or police dont attend to u just bang their table…i will make a trip from klang to steven corner OUG very soon as my hand improved…i strongly urged the publics not to scared the police or any gangsters involved in this scene…i will go against the police or any gangsters involved with steven corner…stupid boss dont think you r really taiko.stupid ah wai do u really think u r a hero helping steven corner…how much they paid u…an oldman same race with u got bullied and u help the opposition…i used to b a big timer at klang but i quit after married…last time even though i am a big timer i always help ppl who got bullied that y i join pakatan to help the publics…police r just a country dog…they only good in bribe…u have da money u have da power…if the oldman is somebody in BN do u think the police will ask them to settle among themselves…we must teach that bastard steven corner boss a lesson…very soon i will b there to watch movie. pity da oldman.

For years, I had witnessed. When there are too many complaints on SC;s extra & extra tables & chairs set on public roads which leads to blocking the traffic flow.

When the residents files many numerous complaints (something like in 100′s) then municaipal council comes in to take “some actions”

Municipal goes to SC. Few tables & some old chairs were taken away, mostly at 11 pm or 12 midnight)
By 5 am, the same municipal truck would return and unload whatever was taken from SC, couple of hours ago.

Macam macam ada!

Can somebody forward this to PM Najib pls. There is nothing wrong with the police force as a whole but definitely something wrong with a few (top ranking ones)that smears the good image of the Team.

Have heard this boycot crab like an old
record.Malaysians never learn to boycot anything.
After a few weeks, they forget
about the incident….and continue
patronizing the business. So,these businesses continue prospering n cheating and bullying ordinary people. Our community spirit is lacking as compared to developed and more united countries. Wake up to your rights, Malaysians.

Dear All, Please don’t just say boycot but make sure you really boycot them forever. They are really lansi cos they have the uniform man protecting them. We must teach them a lesson and at the same time make them to issue a public apology and pay compensation to Mr.Lim.
Make it clear to them that if anything were to happen to Mr. Lim and his family, they must be held responsible. No compromise.

I read with disbelief and dismay that “Malaysia Boleh” had gone so far. These could had been due bad leadership right from the top, racial bias, corruptions, inefficiency and many many more

Hi to all mamak curry lovers, there are so many of us patronising and frequening these mamak stalls from North to South. Surely one of you would be able to start a franchise cooking these curries.

I think that nobody is above the law. How many of us really know abt wat happened btw the shopowner and his jiran.Mebbe dey hav some ol quarel.Who ar v to be judge and juri.

As u al know, in Malaysia, wen 2 different races quarrel, justice becomes blur.Ppl take sides. The wrong person may get away.

Calling for boycott is unhelthy. The Yg Berhormat should use her offis to get the Police to really investigate the matter.Let the Police do their job.

I also go to this shop sometimes. I also go to Chinese and Malay shops.I eat and go home.I hav no problems.

Pls la Malaysians, dont start this racial boycott. Remember wat happened 41 yrs ago in this country??
Dont b racial, pls. Peace and love man!!Repair n repair the relationship always.

Eugene

I wonder what make you say that this blog is a disgrace. You must be one of Steven’s great supporter i guess but also a joker without any feelings for human. You said the picture of a bloodied old man is an emotional issue and they are making use of this just to gain political millage. What got political issue do to with this, what if that old man was one of your family members. Wake up Eugene don’t be behind time, put a little human feelings into your head.

There is no excuse in this world to beat up an old man you said. The people who voice out are not judge, jury and executioner but they are humans with feelings not like you. This is Malaysia with laws implemented and not a cowboy country. If your Steven is not satisfied bring the matter to the police or engage a lawyer rather then showing your power and strength to a poor old man. You should tell Steven to find a stronger man.

Weather you witness the incident or talked to all witnesses including the owner of Steven’s Corner to understand the situation,or what exactly transpired does not matter – Steven got NO RIGHT to raise his hands the law is there. Thank god this old man did not die if not your so called Steven Seagal will be hanged till death and you wont have anything to say anymore.

Now I put this to you !!!!!!!!!! infuture

Write in a responsible manner befitting of a level-headed leader. Then you will be a great wakil rakyat.

DBKL is abbreviation for: Duit Boleh Kira Lulus, the only standard in DBKL is $$$$$$$.

So in DBKL…. the rich :)can do what they want; and, the poor :(and the weak :(kerana tiada $$$ apa pun Dak Boleh Kira Lulus.

POLIS is abbreviation for: Pegawai Orang ‘Lansi’,'Istimewa’ dan ‘Samseng’. The head of the gangs of three.

So why are you all surprise that the POLIS are going all the way to help the Lansi, VIP and Samseng.

So think twice if you are going to POLIS for help or to complain about the conduct of the gangs of three.

It is safer to complain to Teresa!
